COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION
Travelling with Able Trekking Tours provides an opportunity for NDIS participants to meet new people and make social connections with others who share similar interests and experiences. Our tours often include group activities, which can be a great way to build friendships and support networks. Many of our members create long-lasting friendships and we see them return together for years to come.
ACHIEVING PERSONAL GOALS
Our tours are designed to help NDIS participants achieve personal goals such as gaining independence, building confidence, and trying new activities. Our team is dedicated to supporting our clients in reaching their goals, working closely with them to ensure each tour is a positive and empowering experience. NDIS funding may be available to cover supports provided to help achieve these goals. However, everyone is assessed individually, and there are no guarantees. Therefore, it is crucial to set the right goals in your plan.

How To Set NDIS Goals To Fund Supports For hiking
Able Trekking Tours
NDIS Act 2013: Fair And Reasonable
Supports
In order to request funding for NDIS supports to hike with us, you must show that a tour with Able Trekking Tours can be considered a fair and reasonable support under the NDIS Act 2013.
1.A : The Support Will Assist The Participant To Pursue The Goals, Objectives And Aspirations Included In The Participant's Statement Of Goals And Aspirations;
A hike with Able Trekking Tours provides opportunities for participants to engage in new experiences, develop new skills, and build their confidence and independence. This can help participants achieve their goals related to social and community participation, personal development, and building life skills. Additionally, Able Trekking Tours’ support staff are trained to provide individualised support and guidance to participants, helping them to navigate new environments and activities, and to build their capacity to manage their disability in new and challenging situations.
1.B : The Support Will Assist The Participant To Undertake Activities, So As To Facilitate The Participant's Social And Economic Participation;
Supported tours allow the participant to undertake socially and economically beneficial activities within the broader community. During the tour, participants have the opportunity to engage in social activities, meet new people, and build social connections. This can help to reduce social isolation and improve the participant’s overall well-being.
1.C : The Support Represents Value For Money In That The Costs Of The Supports Are Reasonable, Relative To Both The Benefits Achieved And The Cost Of Alternative Support;
A hiking tour with Able Trekking Tours represents value for money as it provides a unique and enriching experience for NDIS participants that cannot be achieved through other forms of support, such as in-home care or day programs, making it a cost-effective option for NDIS participants. Able Trekking Tours also provides transparency in their pricing. We use the NDIS price guide as a base to calculate costs of supports and work closely with participants to ensure their funding is maximised and used effectively.
1.D : The Support Will Be, Or Is Likely To Be Effective And Beneficial For The Participant, Having Regard To Current Good Practice;
All our supported tours are aligned with current good practice in disability support and travel. Able Trekking Tours employs trained and experienced support crew who are knowledgeable in person-centred disability support and, ensuring participants’ safety, comfort and enjoyment throughout the tour.
1.E : The Funding Or Provision Of The Support Takes Into Account What It Is Reasonable To Expect Families, Carers, Informal Networks And The Community To Provide;
Able Trekking Tours provides reasonable and necessary supports that complement, rather than replace, the support provided by families, carers, and the community. The funding or provision of a tour with Able Trekking Tours is based on the principle of providing the level of support required for the participant to achieve their goals while ensuring that the participant’s family, current carers, and the community are not unduly burdened or disadvantaged.
1.F : The Support Is Most Appropriately Funded Or Provided Through The National Disability Insurance Scheme, And Is Not More Appropriately Funded Or Provided Through Other General Systems Of Service Delivery Or Support Services Offered By A Person, Agency Or Body, Or Systems Of Service Deliveryor Support Services Offered:
(I) As Part Of A Universal Service Obligation; Or
(I) In Accordance With Reasonable Adjustments Required Under A Law Dealing With Discrimination On The Basis Of Disability.
While some general service providers may offer hiking tours, they often lack the knowledge, expertise, and experience needed to support people with disabilities properly. Reasonable adjustments required by anti-discrimination laws may still fall short in providing the necessary level of support for enjoyable hiking experiences. Therefore, using NDIS funding for a holiday with Able Trekking Tours ensures participants receive the appropriate support to fully enjoy their trip. Since holidays don’t have other government funding, it is recommended to claim from the NDIS.
